Episode 208 - Chris Lucas
Kia ora e te whānau. Chris Lucas owned a successful business. He worked very hard. Faced with the prospect of endless grinding because that’s what you do, and the anxiety of knowing deep down that every new thing that he attained, be it a car, or other fancy toy, would become obsolete and then need replacing, Chris walked away from it all to live in a bus, travel, and run with his partner, Charlotte. This idea morphed into an on-line fitness coaching business which ran headlong into the pandemic and failure. From those ashes rose Custom Made Fitness, a running and strength training endeavor which has attracted a diverse and committed stable of athletes. Chris talks about his lessons learned, his 15 years of sobriety, and the challenges of battling through ongoing auto-immune illness to continue to be the best person he can be. As well as this epic conversation, this week we run down all the racing on the weekend (which to be fair, was more than you could shake a stick at) the KJ show aka UTMB, and hear from adaptive athlete and DCR 202 guest Zach Friedley about his experiences at the 40km MCC. Enjoy.
