Kia ora e te whānau. Put 77 people on a start line with the only caveat that they need to do one 6.7km loop an hour and stir. Continue to stir until the last person is standing. Add in beautiful conditions, challenging terrain, beer, moon dust, mind games, and non-stop banging tunes and you have the 2022 Riverhead Backyard Relaps Ultramarathon, the race that nearly wasn’t.
