Episode 186 - Katie Wright 2022

Katie Wright is smiling wearing a blue jacket and holding her race number, standing in front of the yellow gate at the Frozen Head Park, where there is a sign saying Do Not Block Gate

Kia ora e te whānau. Katie Wright has done a lot of cool stuff, probably the coolest thing we think she’s done is being on DCR the most out of anyone. Ok, she’s done cooler stuff, but not much. You could fit this year’s trip to the infamous Barkley Marathons as being in the more-cooler-than-DCR column, same with being the current Tarawera 100 mile champ, oh, and in the final four at Big’s Backyard AND that time she was the first woman in the world to win a Last Person Standing Event. Anyway … This conversation focuses on the Barkley Marathons and we take a deep dive with Katie into what makes this race so special, so difficult, and also (refreshingly) so much like any other race you’d do. We assert the fact that no-one wins in a Marmite war, and lament that Katie’s $1.60 entry fee to the Barkey is still lost in the post.  Warm, engaging, funny,  and effortlessly wise, Katie is one of our favourite human beings to talk to and this time is no different. Set the stoke levels to high and strap in for a right banger of a conversation about the limits of endurance, mindset, and preparation. Enjoy!
